The 4 Absolute Best Survival Guns

Some guns just won’t do the job in a SHTF situation. You need a gun that has power, is useful for more than just shooting.

While you will want to have a gun that is useful, you will need a gun that holds ammo that is readily available in your area. Having an AK-47 is going to hinder your ability to find ammo because most stores do not keep much of it in stock.

Shotgun

A shotgun is an essential in survival 101. These guns are powerful at a short range. The bullets scatter, so targets further away are harder to kill. Shotgun ammo can be found just about everywhere, and there is usually plenty of it in stock.

The best thing about shotgun ammo is that it is the easiest shell to reload. If you are interested in reloading in case of an ammo shortage, you should do plenty of research. There are several ways to reload the ammo, but you need to make sure that you are doing it the safest way possible. You don’t want to die because your ammo misfires.

AR-15

There is a lot of debate about carrying an AR-15, but the fact of the matter is that it is versatile in what ammo can be used in it. For example, you can purchase .223 or 5.56 ammo, but with a slight modification, you can use .22 bullets as well.

The kit for modifying an AR is not hard or expensive to purchase, so this may be something that you have stored in your BOB bag. Another good thing about the AR is that you can shoot long range or short range, and it has a pretty powerful shot.

.22

Most gun fanatics have at least one .22 in their collection. The reason for the .22 being so popular is because the gun is accurate at long distances.

Nowadays, it is harder to come by .22 ammo, so if you plan on having one, you should start stocking up now. These guns are good for taking down game, and they are great for tactical defense. If you have children with you, these guns work better for them. The kick is not nearly as violent as larger caliber weapons.

Thinking Outside of the Box

When you think gun, you think weapon, but a flare gun should be on your list for survival guns as well. A flare gun CAN be used as a weapon, but it is also useful in locating a lost member of your group.

If each person has a flare gun and the group gets separated, someone could shoot off a flare to signal his/her location. If there is a chance that help is on their way, a flare could also ensure that you are seen when that time comes.

Guns come in all shapes and sizes. If you are going to have a gun for survival situations, it is best that you are able to shoot it. While shotguns are powerful, smaller or less experienced shooters may not be able to take the kick.

The best gun for you will depend on what you are comfortable shooting, and if you are able to find ammo for it.
