How to Make The Masters Azalea Cocktail Recipe

The Azalea Cocktail is the signature drink of the Masters golf tournament held at Augusta National Golf Club each spring. This delightful and fruity beverage is ideal for enjoying at golf gatherings or Masters viewing parties! The recipe we share below is a little different from The Masters version, we’ll share both of them below though so you can taste and compare.

How The Azalea Cocktail Got Its Name

The lovely pink hue of this spring cocktail mirrors the beauty of azalea flowers in full bloom alongside the lush greens of Augusta during the Masters. The 13th hole at Augusta National Golf Club is affectionately referred to as the “Azalea” and is adorned with more than 1000 bushes on that single hole! Azaleas hold the honor of being the official flower of both the tournament and the state of Georgia.

Were you aware that there are more than 30 distinct varieties of Southern flowers scattered throughout the course? The vibrant hues of pink and fuchsia stand out against the well-kept greens in Augusta.

Tournament-goers adore the cocktail named after the famous Masters flower. It rivals the renowned pimento cheese sandwiches served at the tournament in terms of popularity.

So how does one make this favorite of the Masters golf tournament? Let’s take a look at the ingredients. They’re all super simple and easy to find!

Azalea Cocktail Variations & Substitutions

Need to swap an ingredient or spice things up? Check out these alternative variations and substitutions for the Azalea!

  • Swap out the vodka for gin.
  • Substitute lemon juice for lemonade, but I suggest adding a bit more lemonade in this case.
  • Use more or less grenadine to find the perfect pretty pink color. Start with a splash and move up from there.
  • Swap out the lemon garnish for fresh orange or lime slices instead.
  • Make a frozen Azalea and blend with ice until smooth!
