Police Officer Eric Casebolt, 41, forced 15-year-old Dajerria Becton to the ground and put his knees on her back.
The policeman who was videoed slamming a teen girl to the ground and pulling his gun on other teens during the McKinney, Texas, pool party incident has resigned.
As reported by Western Journalism, the most controversial part of the video was when McKinney Police Officer Eric Casebolt, 41, forced 15-year-old Dajerria Becton to the ground and put his knees on her back.
Brandon Brooks, 15, who shot the video, said in an interview afterwards: “I think she was quote unquote running her mouth, and she has freedom of speech and that was very uncalled for him to throw her to the ground. When he pulled his gun my heart dropped. As soon as he pulled out his gun, I thought he was going to shoot that kid. That was very scary.”
The video also shows Casebolt manhandling and yelling expletives at other teenagers.
Casebold was placed on administrative leave following the incident, pending an investigation.
The officer’s resignation comes after hundreds of protesters marched through McKinney Monday night, carrying signs calling for him to be fired and chanting that he should be “charged.”
The AP reports that Nikki Perez, a black resident of McKinney, attended a city council meeting Monday to express her concern about the incident.
“I don’t excuse the behavior of those teenagers, but if I call 911, then I wouldn’t want that cop to respond,” Perez said. “He blew his credibility when he opened his mouth and started cursing at the kids.”
The McKinney Police are scheduled to have a press conference Tuesday night to further address their actions at the pool party.
